Under the general oversight of Scott Farrell (Cathedral Director of Music), the choir is conducted by the Director of the Voluntary Choir, currently Douglas Henn-Macrae.
Douglas was previously Senior Lay Clerk in the Cathedral Choir, which he first joined as a Supernumerary Lay Clerk in 1970 after coming down from Bristol University with an honours degree in music. He has also spent 20 years as a parish organist/choirmaster in the area, including 17 years at St Faith’s Maidstone. Douglas recently gained his MMus degree from Canterbury Christ Church University, where his studies included a dissertation on the life and works of the late Dr Robert Ashfield (Cathedral Organist 1956-77).
The Voluntary Choir is normally accompanied by one of the cathedral organists.
