SIR WILLIAM HARRIS (1883-1973) was born and died in London. He studied at the Royal College of Music from 1899 to 1903 with Walter Parratt and Walford Davies. He was organist at New College, Oxford from 1919 to 1928, then at Christ Church (which is both the college chapel and the cathedral for the diocese) until 1933, and finally at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle until 1961. Aside from his organist's duties he conducted the Oxford Bach Choir from 1926 to 1933, was Professor of Organ and Harmony at the RCM from 1923 to 1953 and Director of Musical Studies at the Royal School of Church Music from 1936 to 1961.
